Dr. John Grotzinger, project scientist, Curiosity Rover, will be the Department of Geology’s Green Chair speaker. His topic is “Curiosity’s Mission of Exploration at Gale Crater, Mars,” and he will speak at 6 p.m. on March 4 in Lecture Hall 2, Sid W. Richardson Hall.
Grotzinger is a key leader in the effort to explore our nearest neighboring planet, serving as the project scientist for the Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) mission (the Curiosity Rover). He is also a participating scientist for the Mars Exploration Rovers and for the HiRISE camera onboard the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter. Grotzinger is the Fletcher Jones Professor of Geology and Chair of the Division of Geological and Planetary Sciences at Caltech. He is also a member of the National Academy of Sciences.
