Fewer than 100 scholars and leading business practitioners around the world are appointed as High-end Foreign Experts each year in China.
Management Professor Garry D. Bruton has been appointed as a High-end Foreign Expert by the Central Chinese Government to the School of Management, Jilin University, China. Professor Cai Li, executive vice chair of the JLU University Council, presided over the award ceremony on behalf of JLU, the largest university in China and ranked in the top 10 universities in the nation.
Bruton is lauded for his contributions to advance Chinese academic research. He is one of the world-acknowledged top scholars focusing on management issues in emerging economies. He has served as chairman of the Asia Academy of Management and chief editor of international academic journals including Academy of Management Perspectives and Journal of Management Studies. For approximately 25 years Bruton has studied management issues of Chinese businesses. He spends about a fourth of each year visiting the country and has lived in China twice.
In her award ceremony address, Professor Cai Li expressed heartfelt appreciation for Bruton’s contributions to promoting academic exchanges and encouragement of indigenous Chinese academic research. She emphasized the great significance of high-end talents such as Bruton’s for the development of JLU.
In his role as High-End Foreign Expert, Bruton plans to enhance cooperation with JLU regarding guiding students and faculty members by carrying out international cooperative scientific research programs, introducing and recommending well-known international scholars, and providing international exchange opportunities for students and teachers of JLU as well as Ph.D. joint cultivation programs.
As a key talent attracting program organized and implemented by State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs of the PRC, the recruitment program of High-end Foreign Experts aims to introduce scientists, leaders in sci-tech and economic fields, talents in operation and management fields, and talents with innovative and pioneering spirit to break through key technologies, develop new high-tech industries, lead emerging disciplines and promote the development of industry to meet the demand of China’s key industries, and fields to boost the economy and society.

JLU will further improve the services offered to high-end foreign experts like Professor Bruton, building better platforms for them to work in China,” said Professor Cai.
